queerupnorth Need Your Support!

AAM Members queerupnorth are, at this moment, preparing their appeal against Arts Council England's plans to cut their entire grant.

For QUN, losing their funding will mean the cancellation of the 2008 festival, all future productions and touring, and the end of their programme of work with young people which is currently focused on tackling homophobic bullying in UK schools.

The QUN team are working hard to fight the decision and put a strong case together in time for the 15 January deadline. They URGENTLY need the input of their supporters and peers.

Interested in Dance?

Discover Dance is an audience development project being conducted by Arts About Manchester which is designed to encourage and develop audiences for dance across Greater Manchester.

You can help us to understand why people go to see or get involved in dance. Take part in the Discover Dance online questionnaire by clicking here. It's quick and easy to complete and we would really value your input.

Also, if you have any family members or friends who have never seen dance before, they could attend their first dance performance for free by completing the online questionnaire, so pass it on to anyone who might be interested!

As we open the doors for our Autumn Season, we are offering you a variety of ways to have your say.

We’re looking for audience assessors, and for individuals to take part in small focus groups through audience share.

As an audience assessor you get the chance to become part of the creative process at greenroom. We would ask you to see ‘work in progress’ on two occasions, and solicit your feedback, in a discussion with the artist(s) and other invited audience. You would also be given free tickets for you and a friend for the final performance and we’ll even throw in complimentary bottle of wine as a small gesture of our appreciation.

We are piloting audience assessors with our Ready? scheme: so the work being developed will be Segun Lee-French’s Liar/Opuro, and brief-blue-electric-bloom by HooH HaH & Ailis Ni Riain.

The first workshare for Liar/Opuro is Wednesday 29 August at 7pm; the date for the second workshare and the final performance are to be confirmed, but are likely to take place in spring 2008.

The first workshare for brief-blue-electric-bloom is Friday 14 September at 7pm; the second is Wednesday 31 October, also 7pm; and the final performance will be on Friday 30 November at 8.30pm.

The purpose of audience assessors is to open up the creative process and allow an audience to influence and inform the developing work of artists creating contemporary performance. As well as the two pieces of work detailed above, there will be other opportunities for audience assessors in the future.

With audience share we are offering you the opportunity to feedback about greenroom and the work we produce in a more general way. Let us know what you think about any aspect of greenroom, through small focus groups in the autumn 2007.
