Open City is a project that aims to support local people in becoming visitors at Liverpool arts venues. It aims to make people who don’t feel able to take advantage of the city’s cultural offer to feel welcome, supported and excited about attending the arts in Liverpool.
The project is run by Liverpool Arts Regeneration Consortium (LARC). LARC is made up of eight of the leading arts institutions in Liverpool, and works to establish Liverpool as a world class creative city, and ensure that the arts sector plays a significant role in the regeneration of the Liverpool City Region.
Role Purpose
Open City Volunteers will work with community groups who don’t currently attend the arts to encourage them to engage with arts organisations in Liverpool.
Volunteers will work with one specific community group and will build trust and confidence in the group, leading them on visits to the different arts organisations involved in the project and facilitating discussions of their experiences.
Key responsibilities
• Work in partnership with Community Group Leader
• Meet regularly with your assigned community group to develop a trusting relationship and seek to understand their barriers to attending the arts
• Act as an inspiring leader to the group by supporting them on their ‘journey’, being sensitive to their concerns and needs and seeking to inspire a love of the arts
• Create a relevant programme of cultural activity for the group
Start date: As soon as possible
Duration and hours: We request you commit to a minimum 6 months, working approximately 8 hours per week
Based: The role will be partly home-based but you will be mostly required to visit venues and your community group
Expenses: Travel and food expenses
