Rachel McCrum
Research and Intelligence Officer
In September 2006, I arrived in Manchester via an MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Edinburgh; a year spent travelling and working on conservation projects in New Zealand; a BA in English Literature and Language from Jesus College, Oxford; and a childhood spent in a small seaside town in Northern Ireland called Donaghadee. Within months, the irrepressible mix of theatres, galleries, museums, festivals, events, venues and clubs had drawn me away from my work of recent years in the sustainability and environmental sectors and back to an interest in the arts that saw a 3 year stint as Student Rep and Marketing Intern for the Royal Shakespeare Company at university, directing and marketing a number of student productions, and a dissertation centred around Irish theatre.
Since taking up position as Intelligence and Research Officer with AAM in March 2008, I have been able to combine my experiences as a sustainability consultant to the public sector with an enthusiasm for development in the arts.
More specifically, I support and develop evaluations that assess the economic, social, environmental and cultural impacts of arts venues, events and organisations in Manchester and the NorthWest. Drawing on the extensive skills, experience and resources at AAM, these evaluations provide accessible and practical support for venues, events and organisations wishing to develop in sustainable and innovative ways.
