Becoming a member

Arts About Manchester is a membership organisation. We are owned by our members and managed by an Executive Committee which considers requests for membership at quarterly meetings.

Whilst some activities/services are available commercially, many are restricted to members only.

New members are strictly considered according to:

• The applying organisation’s commitment to our core aims and objectives and the contribution it will make to the membership as a whole
• The applying organisation’s basic eligibility including
  - regular presentation of subsidised, professional arts events
   - receiving core revenue funding from existing arts/heritage/local authority partners
  - investment in marketing and audience development
• Our capacity and ability to respond to the new members' needs

We believe that collaboration is key to successful sectoral development, so it is vital that our members are active and committed. The expectation of all members is that they will:

• Work together to develop audiences for the arts
• Contribute ideas, information and resources to further the aims of AAM
• Make confidential data available to us – such data will remain confidential and its use will be covered by the Data Protection Act
• Allocate time and resources to support and develop each other and participate in joint activities for mutual benefit

In return, we deliver the following strategic and executive activities to members:

• Advocacy and influence with policy makers, funders and partners to achieve funds and profile for audience development
• Market intelligence, research and information resources to inform practice
• Networking and professional development opportunities
• Audience development projects
• Collaborative marketing initiatives
• Cost effective marketing services.

We also offer a range of exclusive benefits to our members - click here to find out more.

Cost

Membership contributions are charged on a sliding scale ranging from £1,000 to £6,000 per annum based on audience figures and organisational turnover. We are a not-for-profit organisation so the fee represents a contribution to the operating costs of AAM, which we match by achieving revenue funding (currently ACENW and AGMA) and by generating commercial income where services can be extended to non-members without conflict of interest.
