Where to Find Training

This list outlines some of the training providers which offer professional development relevant to the arts sector.

It is not an exhaustive list, but may help guide you in the right direction.

 

The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) offers a range of recognised, accredited courses: Introductory Certificate in Marketing; Professional Certificate in Marketing; Professional Diploma in Marketing; Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.

The Arts Marketing Association (AMA) is working in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) to offer an Advanced Certificate in Arts Marketing (ACAM).

The course is currently being run by Cambridge Marketing College over several weekends a year. To find out more and to register your interest you need to contact the college direct on 01223 421903.

Common Purpose is an international leadership organisation that runs a range of programmes for leaders of all ages, sectors and backgrounds. It aims to help people in leadership and decision-making positions to be more effective: in their own organisations, in the community and in society as a whole.

The London Management Centre provides business and management solutions, workshops and training courses in the field of leadership, management, human resources development and business skills.

The Theatrical Management Association (TMA) runs an intensive residential course every September called The Essentials of Marketing (also known as Druidstone, which is actually the name of the venue). The course is extremely competitive as they only take a small number of students each year. It is specifically aimed at people working in theatres.

TMA also offers short training courses on a range of performing arts related subjects.

The Association of British Orchestras (ABO) runs a series of one-day training courses called Brass Tacks which includes refresher and introductory courses such as 'An Introduction to Marketing':

The Independent Theatre Council (ITC) runs training courses and seminars year-round, which cover a range of topics and issues of relevance to managers and administrators in the performing arts sector. ITC courses can be searched by subject on the website.

engage is an international association for arts education professionals. They have regular seminars and training opportunities for their members. Their website has an online database of training opportunities called fast train, which includes engage's regional continuing professional development (CPD) programme, local and national seminars and conferences and other courses including further education.

Manchester Business School offers various courses for the business environment, such as Web Creation & Design; Maximising your Quantitative Research Skills & Results; Stress Management in the Workplace; Project Management; and Report Writing.

The Museums Association runs a CPD programme for their members, aimed at people working in museums. Its range of seminars and conferences are open to members and non-members.

The London College of Communication is part of the University of the Arts London. LCC offers a range of short, daytime courses for professionals in design, marketing, communication or the visual arts.  Each one of their scheduled courses can potentially be delivered on another date or at your own premises or you can organise a tailor-made course for your organisation.
